Reclaim a bit of land for Scotland, although I&#8217;m not sure how threatening our appearance is and will they give up some turf for the Saltire.<\/p>\n<p>At least today we had a car. Good thing since we were driving to Skipton (some 125 miles from Bankend).<\/p>\n<p>Since we didn&#8217;t get to visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.devilsporridge.org.uk\/\">The Devil&#8217;s Porridge Museum<\/a> yesterday, we opted to stop in on our journey south.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m28!1m12!1m3!1d146435.95623805517!2d-3.486614199247051!3d55.0070814475047!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!4m13!3e6!4m5!1s0x4862cb544f65ca8d%3A0x1536c9559268ee22!2sHutton+Lodge%2C+Bankend%2C+Dumfries+DG1+4RP%2C+United+Kingdom!3m2!1d55.002105!2d-3.5231779999999997!4m5!1s0x487d3b8b3fb06589%3A0xf8f239ead5c75683!2sThe+Devils+Porridge%2C+Eastriggs%2C+United+Kingdom!3m2!1d54.985392999999995!2d-3.169883!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sca!4v1475665397099\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, it wasn&#8217;t to be again &#8211; no place to park in their small car park. Not knowing Eastriggs that well, and the location of other places to leave the car, we didn&#8217;t stay. Disappointed, especially since my friend, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chrislongmuir.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Longmuir<\/a> recently released her latest historical crime novel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Devils-Porridge-Kirsty-Campbell-Mysteries-ebook\/dp\/B01JLQVVFQ\/\" target=\"_blank\">Devil&#8217;s Porridge<\/a> set at the large munitions factory located between Eastriggs and Gretna during WWI.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 0;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m28!1m12!1m3!1d294143.39626378997!2d-3.2214760688231956!3d54.83276769629196!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!4m13!3e6!4m5!1s0x487d3b8b3fb06589%3A0xf8f239ead5c75683!2sThe+Devils+Porridge%2C+Eastriggs%2C+United+Kingdom!3m2!1d54.985392999999995!2d-3.169883!4m5!1s0x487cfbedd916b68d%3A0x9da6b0dd7510737b!2sBrougham+Castle%2C+Moor+Lane%2C+Penrith%2C+United+Kingdom!3m2!1d54.654002!2d-2.718871!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sca!4v1475665457469\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>We saw this castle from the main A66 road on last year&#8217;s trip and with it&#8217;s proximity to the motorway decided we would visit it this year. Remember my earlier post when I mentioned perks to being an Historic Scotland renewal member? Not only do we get into Historic Scotland sites free of charge, but also English Heritage ones. Signposted from the main road, when we got to the right turn onto Moor Lane, we had to navigate around the road closed sign. I always buy a guidebook of the property so I can look back at it later. Follow on around the corner to a pay and display one. Of course, we got there too early for overnight parking.<\/p>\n<p>Checked into our room, we walked back for the car having been told the one vehicle would be moved by the time we got back. The white Fiat now parked on the street, Monty had &#8216;off-street&#8217; parking.
