It&#8217;s a beautiful city in every season. I think it&#8217;s the closest thing to Paris there is without jumping on a plane for a seven hour flight. From where I live, Vieux-Qu\u00e9bec is about a six hour car ride. Everything within the fortifications is in walking distance. Even the hotel my husband and use, is only a five minute walk beyond the wall. If we have a room on the back of our accommodations, we overlook the Plains of Abraham.<\/p>\n<p>With all this going for it, you can understand why I wrote a novel set in this beautiful, historic city.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_977\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-977\" style=\"width: 474px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_4300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-977 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_4300-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux-Qu\u00e9bec\" width=\"474\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-977\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dufferin Terrace<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Dufferin Terrace is a beautiful place to walk in any season.\u00a0 It overlooks the Lower Town and the majestic St. Lawrence River. Day or night, the views from here are spectacular.<\/p>\n<p>Fairmont le Ch\u00e2teau Frontenac in the distance has the appearance of a medieval castle with its towers and turrets &#8211; a place where knights would rescue damsels in distress.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_979\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-979\" style=\"width: 474px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_4746-1260x1890.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-979 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_4746-1260x1890-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux-Qu\u00e9bec\" width=\"474\" height=\"711\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-979\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rue du Petit Champlain<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Christmas in full swing here on this narrow street. Riding across the river to L\u00e9vis gives you a whole different perspective of the city. This inclined railway is the best way to travel from the top of the escarpment to the bottom or vice vera. Actually, the walk down the hill isn&#8217;t nearly as difficult as the return trip.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_985\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-985\" style=\"width: 474px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_4759-1260x1890.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-985 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_4759-1260x1890-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux-Qu\u00e9bec\" width=\"474\" height=\"711\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-985\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Place royale<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This part of town is beautiful year round and is one of the stops on the ghost walk. One of my favourite shops is in the background on the left &#8211; Geomania. The area behind H\u00f4tel de Ville and the park beside it are packed with vendors selling all manor of things &#8211; handknitted, blown glass, footwear, books, a caf\u00e9 where you can sit and take a load off whilst enjoying something to eat or drink.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1091\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1091\" style=\"width: 474px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_0110-1280x853-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1091 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_0110-1280x853-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux-Qu\u00e9bec\" width=\"474\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1091\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Most haunted house in Quebec?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On one of the horse-drawn carriage rides we took, our driver told us the section of the house above overgrown by the shrubs covering the front windows was reputed to be the most haunted house in the city. It definitely looks in disrepair and sorely in need of some TLC, but haunted?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1092\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1092\" style=\"width: 474px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_0192-1280x1920.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1092 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.melanierobertson-king.ca\/wp02\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/IMG_0192-1280x1920-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux-Qu\u00e9bec\" width=\"474\" height=\"711\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1092\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ghost walk guide<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On our last summer trip, we did a ghost walk hosted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghosttoursofquebec.com\/?lang=en#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Les Visites Fant\u00f4mes<\/a>. We started out while it was still light out and finished well after dark in an unlit Holy Trinity Cathedral. We&#8217;ve done it twice now. There are three different routes you can take &#8211; two shorter ones, or a long one with puts them both together.
