Ruth (Neddo) Robertson May 13, 1930 - September 14, 2010<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since my mum passed away. I still kick myself for not stopping by the hospital after I did a presentation at the local genealogical society on Home Children but at the time I was certain it would wait until the next night when I would be visiting. I couldn’t have been more wrong.<\/p>\n

When my mum turned 75, my cousin, Patsy, wrote a poem for her. It was read aloud by the nieces and nephews at the surprise birthday bash I’d arranged at one of our local restaurants. At the end of each verse, the kids all pumped their arms in the air and hollered “Hey, Aunt Ruthie!”<\/p>\n

I presided over my mum’s funeral and Patsy, along with her two younger sisters and me, spoke about our memories. At the end of our service, I suggested we give my mum one last “Hey Aunt Ruthie” and everyone in attendance obliged.<\/p>\n

The day of the internment, we sent my mum off with a ‘slightly revised’ version of the Tribute to Aunt Ruthie, popped the cork on a bottle of bubbly and played Go Rest High on that Mountain<\/strong> by her favourite country singer, Vince Gill.<\/p>\n

This is the revised version of the poem…<\/p>\n

When Aunt Ruthie turned 75,
\nWe wrote this little ditty
\nIt\u2019s shorter than \u201cThe Highwayman\u201d
\nBut we think it\u2019s kind of pretty.<\/p>\n

Our Aunt Ruthie, she\u2019s the best,
\nUses you good when you\u2019re her guest
\nShe\u2019s classier than all the rest!<\/p>\n

Our Aunt Ruthie, she\u2019s the one,
\nHas an annual garage sale that\u2019s second to none,
\nWe sell some stuff and have some fun!<\/p>\n

She loves all the little creatures,
\nThat can\u2019t fend for themselves.
\nBut George and Laura and the Queen
\nCan all go straight to hell.<\/p>\n

She always has a nice big car
\nAnd man this babe can drive.
\nJust don\u2019t blow your horn behind her
\nIf you want to stay alive.<\/p>\n

She keeps her houses sparkly clean,
\nShe\u2019s always on the job.
\nShe likes her tea and bubbly,
\nAnd she likes her men called Bob.<\/p>\n

Mother, sister, sweetheart, friend,
\nShe\u2019s all of these and more,
\nAnd she\u2019s our Aunt Ruthie,
\nThe one we all adore.<\/p>\n

Well, Aunt Ruthie, the time has come,
\nFor our little ditty to end.
\nWe wanted you to know what you mean to us,
\nYou really are a Godsend.<\/p>\n

So let\u2019s raise a glass to Aunt Ruthie,
\nWho has shown love and tenderness,
\nOne thing is true and always will be
\nShe\u2019s definitely a Goddess!!!!<\/p>\n
