I don’t have time to be sick…

This was an Easter weekend that won’t soon be forgotten. Being sick at the best of times stinks. Being sick on a holiday is even worse. So while other families were sitting down to turkey or ham and trimmings, the menfolk here had to make due with whatever was in the freezer since I was down for the count. Over the entire weekend, I had about half a bowl of chicken soup (and not all in one sitting) and a slice of toast and couldn’t even eat all of it.

When I was growing up, tea and toast were my go-to food and drink when I wasn’t feeling well. How about you? Do you have a favourite food or drink when you’re sick?

  1. I want chicken noodle soup when I’m sick, preferably home made, but if I’m sick, I can’t make it from scratch. Therefore I keep a stock of canned chicken noodle soup on hand at all times.

I’m sorry you were ill over Easter.

  2. So sorry you were so poorly. That sucks, pardon my French. When I’m sick like tha, I want salted pretzels and coca-cola. It goes back to my childhood when that was my GP’s standard recommended recovery diet; you need the salt from the pretzels and the sugar from the coke to rebalance your electrolytes, or something. It works, too, so now it’s a deeply conditioned response to sickness. I’ve ‘infected’ the whole family with this craving but the local doctors all think I’m nuts. Haw haw! Hope you feel much better soon. x

  3. Thanks for dropping by Vivian.

I’ll be stocking up on chicken noodle soup the next time I’m at the grocery store. I sent my hubby to the coffee/donut shop where our daughter works for their chicken soup. I found it terribly salty and can still taste it no matter how many times I’ve brushed my teeth and rinsed my mouth with Listerine. Nothing seems to be able to quash that lingering flavour.

I am SO glad this didn’t happen to me last year during the editing process for A Shadow in the Past.

  4. You’re right Nicky, it sucks, stinks, bites… the list goes on and on. I’ve never heard of salted pretzels when you’re sick but I have heard of coke… usually flat to settle the tummy. I like salt and vinegar crisps on those rare (ahem) occasions when I’ve had a wee bit too much to drink the night before. Hey, it makes sense and whatever works.

  5. So sorry to hear you were sick over the holiday, Melanie. I know what you mean about ‘not having time to be ill’ and I do hope you are recovering now and taking care of yourself.
My favourite go-to when I’m not feeling well is sloppy, sweet, and milky porridge.
    love, Janice xx

  6. Thanks, Janice. Sloppy, sweet and milky porridge kept me going when I had my tonsils out when I was a wee girl. I ended up with an infection to boot so something easy to swallow was a must.

  7. Hope u r feeling better than before Melanie !! Take ur time, go slow……. and…….come out The Best !!!!
