The koala is often referred to as a “koala bear” which is inaccurate. These marsupials are herbivores and native to Australia – primarily along the east coast.
Their diet consists almost completely of eucalyptus leaves, which also provides them with water.
Koalas sleep about 20 hours a day, leaving them 4 hours to forage for food and other physical activities.
Ah, we had the same thoughts for “K”. This i s an adorable little animal. Just makes me want to hug him/her. There is another blog that’s doing animals too. I’ll have to check and see what they posted about today.
I love koalas! And you’re right, I never really gave it thought before about them not being bears. What a life: sleeping for 20 hours a day! They must be some chill animals…

There are days when I could do with 20 hours sleep, too. Any time I’ve seen them in documentaries, koalas look really placid and laid back. Really glad you stopped by today, Michele. Hope you’ll come again.
I love them and they had to endure so much with the fires Australia was/is going through never mind the habitat loss etc… They can be quite the characters too
They certainly did have much to endure during the Australian wildfires. It will be interesting to see how they adapt to the loss of habitat and their food source of eucalyptus leaves.
